TOPEKA, KS – The holidays are a time of hope and Friends of the Topeka Zoo has just the holiday card to send to your loved ones. The “Hope” holiday card centers around the zoos very own Hope the Giraffe.
The card is a collaborative effort between Friends of the Topeka Zoo, Hallmark Cards and photographer Jason Soden.
Hope, was born on July 11th with hyper extended fetlocks meaning both her back legs were folded back to her lower leg. Supportive casts were applied to keep weight off Hopes lower legs. Later, supportive shoes were designed and attached to her rear feet. Recently, Dr. Kamer, Hopes veterinarian, announced that Hopes prognosis was great.
Hallmark Cards has donated the holiday cards as well as note cards to Friends of the Zoo in an effort to help generate revenue for the zoo. It was Hallmark Cards who also made a 25 foot get well greeting card for the community to sign shortly after Hopes birth.
Sales for Hope’s greeting cards will be kicked off at the Friends of the Topeka Zoo Arts and Crafts Fair that will be held on November 7 from 10:30 to 4:00 at the Big Gage Shelter House. Cards will also be available to purchase at the Leopard Spot Gift Shop located inside the zoo.
