TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Call it an executive order to shape-up!
Gov. Sam Brownback announced the Governor's Weight Loss Challenge at a Statehouse news conference Tuesday. KDHE Secretary, and State Health Officer, Dr. Robert Moser.
Brownback says he wants people to form five-person teams, who'll compete to lose the most percentage of weight. In addition to a public competition, he's also challenging state workers to take on the governor's team of himself and four cabinet members.
While the top teams can win prizes, Brownback says the real goal is to encourage Kansans to live healthier lifestyles.
"The percentage of the population who's having difficulty is so large and it's coming fast, and in our young people too," Brownback said. "This is one we as a country need to start figuring out better."
In Kansas, more than two thirds of adults and nearly a third of children are overweight or obese.
Signup for the challenge begins Dec. 17. Teams can register at www.weightloss.ks.gov.
