TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka and Shawnee County Library welcomed motivational speaker and former Kansas University football player Jesse Brinson Wednesday night.

Brinson spoke to teens and parents about self-empowerment, how to find role models, and how to make positive life choices that carry teens into adulthood.

"When you're able to share your life lessons with teens, or anyone, it kind of gives a hope or an understanding of how they can overcome some issues that they face," Brinson said.

He used his personal experiences and life lessons and told teens how he used sports as an outlet, instead of using drugs and gangs, which he saw on streets, growing up in Houston, TX.
