TOPEKA – Steven Noll received a Father’s Day present from his wife he’ll NEVER forget! It wasn’t a tie or cologne – it was a lottery ticket worth $149,360! Noll is the sole jackpot winner in the Firecracker 50/50 drawing conducted yesterday at Lottery headquarters in Topeka. The Nortonville couple came to Topeka today to claim the prize. Noll’s ticket matched the winning number of 8361, earning him the jackpot in the “winner takes all” Firecracker 50/50 raffle.
“When I gave him the ticket for Father’s Day, he said, ‘I can’t believe you wasted $20 on one ticket,’” said Donna Noll. “I pointed out to him that the odds were pretty good that he could possibly win.”
“It’s unbelievable. Hopefully she can top that next Father’s Day!” joked Steven Noll.
Steven Noll teaches middle school history and computers in USD 339 Jefferson County North. He’s also the girls’ high school basketball coach. Donna Noll is the technology director for USD 409 Atchison. The two celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary last month. They have four children: Luke just graduated from the University of Kansas and has a job teaching math at Hayden High School in Topeka; Katie is a student at Kansas State University; Cory attends Sterling College, and Bryce is a sophomore in high school.
“We’ll be using the prize money to help pay off some college loans, that’s for sure,” said Steven Noll. “We’ll also give some to the church, do a few home improvements and put some money away.” The Nolls say the $149,360 prize they won is just the right amount.
“It helps life out, but it doesn’t change life,” explained Donna Noll.
The lucky Firecracker 50/50 ticket was purchased at J & K’s Service, located at 19944 Highway K-4 in Nortonville.
