FORT RILEY (WIBW) -- The 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, or the “Dragon” brigade, is hosting the 1st Inf. Div. Expert Field Medical Badge Competition. More than 100 Soldiers in the enlisted and officer ranks will stand ready to be individually tested on their professional skill, stamina and technical proficiency.

The Soldiers must complete a number of rigorous events including a day and night land navigation course, three combat testing lanes, a written test and a 12-mile ruck march, which they have to complete within a three-hour period.

The Expert Field Medical Badge, or EFMB, was established in June 1965 as a Department of the Army special skill award to medical personnel in both enlisted and officer career fields for exceptional competence and outstanding performance. Less than 20 percent of competitors earn the badge.

The badge presentation ceremony will be held outside Bldg. 88312 on Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside Barlow Theater.
