TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man known for his dependability was honored Wednesday.
Safe Streets and Topeka City of Character presented Rod Obermeier with this month's Champion of Character award.
Obermeier is the secretary and treasurer of the Downtown Topeka Optimist Club. He was nominated by Joe and Cindy Patton for his dedication to helping youth and his tireless fight against childhood cancer. They say Obermeier demonstrates the character qualities of initiative, responsibility and dependability.
Obermeier says it's important that organizations like the Downtown Topeka Optimist Club exist to give kids a helping hand.
