TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Temporary cross walk signs were installed Tuesday at the intersection where a woman was hit by a truck Monday morning.

Crews were putting the signs up near the intersection of SW 6th and Orchard.

A construction project on that stretch of 6th finished last week.

City officials Tuesday called the accident a terrible tragedy, but wouldn't comment whether placing signs Tuesday was because of the accident or whether the intersection had signs before the construction.

21-year-old Ashley Venneberg was struck by a Chevrolet pickup while she was trying to cross the street Monday morning.

Stormont-Vail officials say she remains in critical condition.
