TOPEKA, Kan, (WIBW) - Shawnee County will begin taking bids to demolish a local pool.
Commissioners voted in April to close the 55-year-old Crestview Pool. They voted unanimously Monday for the county to begin soliciting bids to tear the pool down.
The county expects to complete the work by late fall or early spring, weather permitting.
County officials said the pool was beyond repair and replacing it would require relocation due to new flood plain restrictions.
Commissioners also unanimously approved a $280,000 contract to put in a roundabout at the intersection of Northwest 46th and Topeka Boulevard. Public Works Director Tom Vlach says a roundabout will improve traffic flow over the existing signal.
The construction is part of a bigger project that will include adding curbs, gutters and sidewalks from Topeka Blvd. west to Rochester Road.
The work will be funded by the county's half-cent sales tax.
