TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County Commissioners will decide the future of one Topeka swimming pool at their meeting Thursday.
According to information included with their meeting agenda, Parks and Recreation staff say Crestview Pool is beyond repair. They say, even if it was replaced, it would need to be relocated to comply with existing flood plain recommendations.
Parks staff says that the deteriorating condition of the pool was known prior to last year's merger of city and county parks and recreation operations. However, the facility degraded more quickly than anticipated. Parks director Terry Bertels, Parks Division Supervisory Staff and industry experts inspected the facility's condition after the pool closed last summer.
Parks officials recommend removing the pool and using the master planning process to determine what might take its place at the park.
