TOPEKA CITY HALL -- The City of Topeka Street Section is seeking snow plow contractors with ¾ to 2 ton, four wheel drive trucks mounted with 8' plows to plow City residential streets when snow fall accumulations are 7 or more inches.
Email notifications were sent out December 5 to 31 contractors, lawn service providers, and landscape vendors currently registered with the City's eProcurment online bidding system. An additional 18 letters were sent by mail to potential vendors not yet registered with the City. This is the second time the City has requested contractors to bid on providing the service. Fourteen notifications were sent in November but garnered only one response.
Each contractor will be responsible for ensuring all drivers have a valid Kansas driver's license and carry the proper insurance. Contractors will be provided as much advanced notice as possible but be required to respond to an event within 3 hours. Once responding they will be briefed on the scope of work (single pass), and assigned specific maps and/or route sheets to plow.
"We hope to receive and award bids to contractors that collectively will provide the City with as many as 50 approved vehicles," said Ron Raines, director of Street Maintenance and Traffic Operations. "The hope is to plow all residential streets within a 48 to 56 hour time frame after a snow storm that produces 7 or more inches of snow accumulation."
Bid details can be found online at: www.topeka.org
All bids for snow plows and drivers must be submitted by 2:00PM, December 16th.
