TOPEKA (WIBW) — The Topeka Symphony will present music by Brahms & Menotti on Saturday February 16th in White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus. The 7:30 pm program will be conducted by Conductor Candidate Christopher Kelts. This concert is underwritten by UMB Bank.

The concert will open with a Concerto for Violin by Menotti. Guest Violin soloist, Brian Lewis is a native of Ottawa, Kansas. Brian was a Topeka Symphony Youth talent winner when he was in high school and has performed with the Topeka Symphony and Sunflower Music Festival. The second half of the program will be Symphony No. 2 by Brahms.

Conductor Candidate, Christopher Kelts, has been Music Director of the Kansas City Civic Orchestra since 2008. He is also Director of Orchestras at Washburn University and first conductor of the newly established Kinnor Philharmonic in Kansas City. Kelts, a violist, holds a doctorate in orchestral conducting from UMKC. He grew up in Saint Louis.

Season ticket packages are still available and start at $59. New subscribers who purchased the last three concerts receive 50% off the regular subscription price. A Flex Pass, good for any combination of four admissions, is also available for $115. Single tickets for this concert are $32, $27 and $22, with full-time students at half price.

At 6:30 pm Kelly Huff, Washburn Professor of Music History, will present an informal talk about the evening’s program in the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center. The concert preview is free to all ticket holders and reservations are not required. Beverages will be available for purchase.
