TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A ceremonial march kicked off the governor's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

It began with a march from the Kansas Judicial Center to the Statehouse.

The ceremony included inspirational messages from several people, including Ron Freeman, a former football player for Pitt State.

"Dr. King knew who he was, created an image of god and had purpose in his life," Freeman.

'Dr. King was a profit to the nation, a profit to the world. He said incredible things that we continue to live by," Governor Sam Brownback.

The governor then signed a proclamation stating January 20th is Martin Luther King Day in Kansas.
