(WIBW) - U.S. Census figures show Riley and Geary counties experiencing impressive population growth between 2010 and 2012.
Census figures show Geary County's population up almost 11 percent from July 2010 to July 2012. Riley County showed just over a six-percent growth in that time period.
Shawnee County was up 0.6 percent, while the state of Kansas' population overall grew 1.1 percent. The current state population is at almost 2.9 million residents.
U.S. Census figures also show Manhattan was the 10th-fastest growing metro area in the country, at almost 3 percent. Much of the area's growth is helped by the return of Big Red One troops from Afghanistan.
Midland, Texas was the fastest-growing metro in the report.
