TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Lila Belle Deitrich was a little girl with dark, curly hair and expressive eyes that would warm your heart.

Lila also was born with epilepsy and, on March 17, 2013, she passed away at the age of just 19 months of complications from the disease coupled with a severe bout of RSV.

Her family are natives of Carbondale and the community is rallying around them with the "Getting Up from the Fall" 5K run/walk coming up August 10. The money raised from the event will go to assist the family with funeral and medical expenses.

The event will begins and end at the Carbondale Ball Diamonds. Registration begins at 8:15 am on race day, with the run/walk starting at 9 am. Advance registration through SunflowerStriders.org is $30 through July 27. After that, it is $35.

Event organizers Emily Roberts and Courtney Thompson shared Lila Belle's story on 13 News at 4.
