Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Kansas City Royals, and the Topeka Fraternal Order of Police will hold the annual "Shop with a Cop" event this Saturday, December 11th.

When it is: 8:00 – 10:30AM
Where it is: Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 1501 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka

For many children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program this is their only opportunity to do holiday shopping. The Kansas City Royals for the 18th consecutive year are generously providing funds for 100 children to purchase gifts. After hitting the aisles of Wal-Mart those shopping with a cop will enjoy refreshments and some time to gift wrap with supplies provided by the Wal-Mart Foundation.

The spirit of the season resonates throughout the entire event from the gifts of time and money down to the attitudes of the children. “This event helps our children know that there are many people, not just their mentors and family, who care about them,” said Event Coordinator, Darin Whitegon. Law Enforcement officers from the Topeka Police Department, Shawnee County Sheriff’s office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Shawnee County District Attorney’s office are expected to attend.
