About the Author:
Roy Bird was born just south of Abilene, Kansas — Dwight D. Eisenhower's hometown. Bird began writing professionally while still in college and has enjoyed a three-decade career. He grew up in Ike country, and he long has wanted to write about Eisenhower and Abilene. This is his 16th book about Kansas and the American West.
About the Illustrator:
Gwen Battis has drawn pictures all her life. Mostly self-taught, working with graphite pencil until, as an adult, incorporated her natural talent with other methods, such as, water colors, colored pencil, and pastels.
