A dog awaiting adoption at Helping Hands Humane Shelter
TOPEKA -- Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) will be presented with a donation of $10,000 from BPOE Elks Lodge 204 this Wednesday at 1:00.
HHHS Executive Director, Bill Acree, will be presented with the donation in the parking lot of the new shelter (5720 SW 21st Street.) The monetary donation will support the development of the new shelter at that location.
HHHS is currently in the process of raising funds to build a new shelter. The present shelter was built in 1973 to accommodate a yearly intake of 5,000 animals. Currently, HHHS admits nearly 10,000 animals per year. Weather and age have eroded the old building as it has become inadequate to serve the purposes intended. The designs for the new facility will permit a veterinary suite, behavior assessment space, increase of dog and cat kennels, a special “small mammal” room as well as a multi-purpose room for hosting a variety of functions.
