AARP, AG Help Seniors Avoid Scams, Plan Financial Futures

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Helping senior citizens protect themselves against scammers who want their money was the goal of a session Tuesday night.

Attorney General Derek Schmit joined AARP for the event at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. People over the age of 50 were invited to learn ways to spot scams.

In addition, the group got advice on planning for a secure financial future. A certified financial planner shared tips to plan and save so that as people age, they still have freedom and independence.
