TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A group of well-deserving seniors received recognition for their volunteer service.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program or RSVP of Shawnee and Douglas Counties, honored more than a hundred volunteers with a recognition breakfast at the Big Gage Shelter House.
Among those singled out, 91-year-old Dorothy Strom as the oldest active RSVP volunteer and 104-year-old Edna Shaffer, who volunteered right up until just a couple years ago.
Also, Pearson Carter, who alone put in nearly 1600 volunteer hours over the past year!!
In all, from April 2012 to April 2013, RSVP volunteers provided more than 40,000 hours in volunteer service roles ranging from education outreach at local schools to the meals on wheels program.
