AG Worries Abortion Foes are Hurting Tiller Case

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Attorney General Paul Morrison's office says abortion opponents are hurting his prosecution of Dr. George Tiller, a high-profile Wichita abortion provider.

The comment comes as a legislative committee begins a hearing Thursday on late-term abortions.

The panel Thursday morning reviewed a DVD recording of an interview with Dr. Paul McHugh, a psychiatrist. The interview was produced by abortion opponents and has become key evidence to them that Morrison isn't doing enough against Tiller. Morrison is an abortion rights Democrat.

A Democrat says he opposed showing the interview because the panel wouldn't have a chance to question McHugh.

Abortion opponents criticize Morrison over how he is prosecuting Tiller, who faces 19 misdemeanors in Sedgwick County.

They're also hoping to revive allegations against Tiller from Morrison's predecessor, Phill Kline, an anti-abortion Republican.
