Bunten Vetoes IT Program

Mayor Bill Bunten says the ERP software program from Lawson that the City Council had approved for purchase is too expensive -- and is vetoing the purchase.

It passed Tuesday by a 6-to-3 vote. Only six votes are needed to override Bunten's veto -- and Brett Blackburn, who voted against the software, says he will support an override because he supports the majority of the Council.

Bunten said he wasn't going to veto the software, but then about 100 people called or e-mailed him voicing their concerns. He said that doesn't even include people who talked to him on the street.

He says the software will end up costing more than $4 million, and he thinks there are more pressing issues facing the city. He hopes the software problem can be fixed with a cheaper alternative.
