The army is working to bring home a Fort Riley soldier from Iraq that's because his nine-year-old daughter was killed last night in a fire at their apartment.
The Army says the girl died at Irwin Army Community Hospital after the fire in the Colyer Manor housing area.
The girl's mother and three siblings were able to escape the apartment.
Army officials say the father is serving in Iraq as part of a 4th Brigade Combat Team.
First Infantry Spokesman Major Nathan Bond said, "Three of the four children in the unit were rescued by neighbors and by emergency services. This was a member of our community. A soldier and family from our community and we are very saddened by it."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no names have been released.
