Prosecutor to Seek Death Penalty in Kelsey Smith Slaying

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for a man accused of kidnapping an 18-year-old woman from a store parking lot, then raping and strangling her.

Johnson County Phill Kline says he will seek the death penalty for Edwin R. Hall, 26.

Hall is charged with capital murder, kidnapping, rape and aggravated sodomy in the death of Kelsey Smith, of Overland Park.

Hall pleaded not guilty to all the charges Wednesday at an arraignment hearing, a day after a grand jury indicted him.

The grand jury indictment replaced the same charges brought by Kline's office last month.

Hall, of Olathe, is accused of abducting Smith from a Target store parking lot June 2.
