KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Two teenage girls are jailed on kidnap and assault charges in an alleged plot to cut the child from a pregnant woman's womb.

But police say one of the girls got cold feet and called 911. 19-year-old Lauren Gash of Odessa and 17-year-old Alisa Betts of Atchison, Kansas, were arrested at a Blue Springs motel room where they allegedly held the victim of their bizarre plan.

They were arraigned on felony kidnapping charges yesterday. Gash also faces one count of assault.

Blue Springs police said officers charged the hotel room where 18-year-old Amanda Howard of Clinton was being held. She is due to deliver next week.

Betts apparently had second thoughts and called police. A criminal complaint accused Gash of sitting on Howard's stomach and twisting her neck back and forth, ``a substantial step toward'' trying to ``kill or cause serious physical injury'' to her.
