Lawrence Ordinance Remains Despite Faith-Based Concerns
Lawrence's domestic partnership ordinance stands up despite local opposition.
The ordinance is the state's first to grant legal rights to domestic partners, both gay and heterosexual.
It was approved two weeks ago but last night it was back on the agenda.
Commissioners heard faith-based concerns about the ordinance.
Others expressed concern it is contrary to the spirit of the state's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.
None of the commissioners changed their vote.
The registry should be online by August first.
