Sunflower Soccer wants Bathrooms

By: EI

Members of the Sunflower Soccer Association went before the Shawnee County Commission to request putting in a septic system for the Sunflower Soccer fields located at Lower Silver Lake road. This would allow them to put in two permanent bathrooms and thus getting rid of the porta-potties that are presently being used. To have a sewer line extended to the fields would mean coming under Highway 75 from the east side at a cost of over $100,000. This dollar amount is the reason why the Association is looking at the lower cost of putting in a septic system.
The problem is the fields are located in a flood plain which putting in septic systems are rarely approved by the County. County Commissioners put the bathroom issue on to next Thursdays agenda so that they can get the cost of both a sewer line and the cost of a septic system. Commissioner Vic Miller and Ted Ensley both agreed that they would be willing to look in to having the County pay part of the cost of laying a sewer line to the soccer fields.
