Memorial Day at the Statehouse
A Statehouse ceremony remembered veterans on this Memorial Day.
Emotions ranged from mourning those lost, to celebrating their lives.
But mostly, people gathered to remember those who dedicated their lives to defending their country.
Roses represented comrades and family members.
Fallen troops and those who served America were honored for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices -- of which there have been many in Kansas.
But on a day when personal mourning would be appropriate -- the mother of Jeremy Drexler -- who was killed in Iraq - was thinking of others.
Jim Butler says it's just as important to remember why his son Jacob and all the others made that sacrifice.
One prevailing sentiment -- no matter what your feeling is on the war -- don't let it affect your support of the troops.
Support the troops still fighting -- and remember those who came before.
Memorial Day was originally known as decoration day to remember union soldiers killed in the Civil War.
It was expanded after world war one... to recognize all military.
