An independent firm will evaluate damage to Valencia Road in Shawnee County - that's the decision from Shawnee County Commissioners today.

That firm will have 60 days to report what maintenance and repair needs to be done. Residents of Valencia Road say trucks from Kansas Sand & Concrete, a sand quarry nearby, are causing damage to the road that threatens public safety.

Commissioners say under the sand quarry's permit, the county will perform repairs and maintenance if needed to the road, and Kansas Sand & Concrete will pay for at least part of the repairs.
