Kansas Government Helps Greensburg
The Legislature's wrap-up session is usually ceremonial -- but not this time.
Tuesday's wrap was anything but business as usual, with a bill on the table to provide relief to the tornado-ravaged town of Greensburg.
Legislators approved Senate Substitute for House Bill 2540 as a way to provide relief -- and healing -- for the people of Greensburg.
It passed the House and Senate -- unanimously... providing another $25 million of relief.
Businesses that were in the area before the tornado will receive grants to rebuild in the town.
Employment is critical, since businesses rebuilding means jobs -- and jobs mean survival...for the people of Greensburg...and their city.
There is still a long road ahead.
But with the help of the government, as well as people across the state -- there is a glimmer of hope.
The state of emergency issued by Governor Kathleen Sebelius has been extended for another five months as part of the measure.
