At noon EDT Friday, a bell ringing ceremony across the Commonwealth of Virginia will highlight a state-wide Day of Mourning to honor the victims of Monday's tragedy.
In a letter to Governors across the country, Va. Gov. Tim Kaine thanked them for their prayers and well wishes as well as ask them to "stand with Virginia by ringing bells across your state".
As such Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has requested that the bells across Kansas ring at 11:00 a.m. to coincide with the Va. bells.
"As the nation comes together to mourn," said Gov. Sebelius, "Kansans off our thoughts and prayers for the families and friends of the victims, and hope they will find comfort during these difficult times."
A native Kansan, Gov. Kaine's parents still live in Overland Park.
