Midland Hospice Care kicked off its 11th annual "Celebration Walk" this morning with a breakfast at the hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle in Topeka.
Hill's Pet Nutrition CEO Bob Wheeler served as Honorary Chair. He kicked off the campaign, announcing the event's goals and extending an invitation to all Topekans to join the fun while raising money for Midland Hospice.
The "Celebration Walk" will be held on the Midland Hospice Care grounds Friday, May 11. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends with an inspirational closing ceremony at dusk. Walkers take a mile-long walk on a paved surface, complete with handicapped accessibility. The walkway will be lined with luminarias. There will also be food, music and entertainment for the entire family.
Some featured entertainers include Jim Bush and Dixie Road, Bop Daddies, Big Woody's Blues Revue, Santa Fe Band, BJ Forgy & The Red River Special Machine, Sons of the King, Highland Park High School Gospel choir, Topeka High Jazz Band, Topeka High Drumline, and Prairie Fire Fiddlers.
That's not all for the walk's festivities! There will be clowns, magicians, balloon artists and face painting.
Midland describes the walk as a time to celebrate the lives of family and friends.
The family event is a fundraiser to support Midland Hospice Care, a not-for-profit hospice offering care to all patients regardless of inability to pay.
Midland Hospice also has offices in Lawrence, Ottawa and Seneca.
