TOPEKA CITY HALL -- The Topeka Fire Department will begin taking burn permit applications on Thursday, October 1st, for the upcoming fall burning season, which is scheduled from October 15th through November 30th.
Applications can be made through November 25th by accessing the City’s Web site at www.topeka.org, click on “City Services A to Z Directory,” then “Burning Permits.” Applications can also be made by calling the Topeka Fire Department at 368-4000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Inspections of the burn site will be made before permits are issued. Materials to be burned must be piled at the site of the proposed burn before the inspection takes place, otherwise the permit may be denied.
Applicants do not need to be home for the site inspection. A note will be left at the door notifying the applicant whether the permit has been approved or denied. For those who will receive a permit but are not at home, instructions will be left on where to pick up the permit.
All applications will be processed and inspections conducted by October 15 for applications received between October 1 and October 15. Due to the anticipated high number of applications to be received, a specific inspection date or time cannot be made between October 1 and October 15. After October 15, inspections will only be made on Thursdays.
