KSU New President Announced, Attends First Wildcat Game

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas State University's new president is
Kirk Schulz, a vice president at Mississippi State University.

The Kansas Board of Regents announced Wednesday that Schulz will
replace Jon Wefald at Kansas State.

Wefald is retiring at the end of the current academic year after
23 years in the post.

Schulz is vice president for research and economic development
at Mississippi State. He also had been dean of the engineering and
director of the chemical engineering department.

He was the only finalist for the job at Kansas State after two
other candidates dropped out.

Kansas State has more than 23,000 students on campuses in
Manhattan and Salina.

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Dr. Schulz and his wife, Noel, headed to the KSU men's basketball game in Bramlage Coliseum after dinner Wednesday. Schulz said he and his wife are big basketball fans and look forward to attending many more university games with the students and fans at Kansas State.
