TOPEKA - Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has appointed a Marysville resident as the new chairman of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs.
Ed Wiegers became chairman Monday, replacing Jack Fowler, who is
the commission's new executive director. Wiegers is an attorney who
was in the Kansas National Guard from 1949 until 1984, spending
nine years as judge advocate general.
Fowler is leaving his position as executive assistant and counsel to Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Kay McFarland. Fowler served in the Army from 1954 until 1983, retiring as a colonel.
He served two tours in Vietnam as an adviser and executive officer of an infantry officer. Fowler later directed Fort Leavenworth's Combined Arms Combat Development Agency, providing simulations training.
