TOPEKA – Local postmaster Steven Pinkerton announced Wednesday that Michael Martin, city letter carrier at the Sherwood Carrier Annex, has recently been inducted into the Million Mile Club for driving accident free for thirty (30) years.

The National Safety Council’s Safe Driver Award is designed to recognize expert safe driving performance, not just average performance. The Million Mile Club induction is the National Safety Council’s highest award for professional safe driving performance.

To earn a place in the ranks of this elite group, a person’s assignment must include driving a government, contract or privately owned motor vehicle without being involved in a preventable motor vehicle accident for a cumulative total of one (1) million miles or thirty (30) years.
