Specialist Schmidt Honored in Newton Services

NEWTON, KS - Friends and family gathered in Newton for the funeral of a Kansas National Guardsmen killed in Iraq. 18 year old Army Specialist Ronald Schmidt died August 3rd, just two days before he would have turned 19. He suffered fatal injureis when his vehicle rolled over while he was on patrol duty.

Mourners included Governor Sebelius and Adjutant General Tod Buntin, along with Congressman Todd Tiahrt. Mourners paid their respects to Schmidt at Grace Community Church.

Schmidt's casket was taken to his final resting place at a cemetery in Eureka, Kansas. He was buried with full military honors.
