TOPEKA, Kan. - Topeka Police, USD 501 administrators and the Durham Bus Company all want to know who stole $75 of diesel fuel from the bus barn Thursday morning.
Topeka Police were called to the bus barn, 200 E. 21st, about 9:40 a.m. Thursday on a report that a man was attempting to pump fuel from the barrels at the Durham School Services facility.
Employees confronted the subject, who then got into his vehicle and began to leave the area. Employees attempted to shut the gate, which the suspect then rammed with his vehicle.
A Durham employee was hit by the truck and thrown several feet by the impact. He was taken to a local hospital by AMR with non life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was last seen leaving the area in a silver Dodge pick-up. The suspect is described as a white male, about 5’8” with dark hair, last seen wearing a black shirt. The pickup had ladders on the side like you would see on a construction vehicle.
Topeka Public Schools officials say all fuel tanks at Durham have now been turned off.
