TOPEKA, Kan. - Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens has brought
his effort to increase the use of wind and natural gas to Kansas.

Pickens, who got rich in the oil industry, says America must
change its addiction to foreign oil. He's spending 58 million dollars to promote his ``Pickens Plan'' with a series of town hall meetings across the Great Plains, starting today in Topeka. It was streamed live here on wibw.com this afternoon.

Pickens says Kansas is in a corridor from the Texas panhandle to
North Dakota that could produce 20 percent of the nation's
electricity by wind. Governor Kathleen Sebelius, a longtime advocate of alternatives energy sources, was scheduled to introduce Pickens at the inaugural town hall meeting this afternoon.

13-News was on hand for the event. Pickens said he wants to see natural gas be used to fuel vehicles, and wind energy be used to replace the natural gas production for other uses.
