TOPEKA (WIBW) — St. Francis Health, Doorstep and Walmart want Topeka families to protect themselves from harmful sun exposure and potentially dangerous insect bites this summer.
Friday, May 2nd, and Saturday, May 3rd, volunteers from St. Francis will be at the entrance of the North Topeka Walmart, at 2600 NW Rochester Road, collecting bug spray and sunscreen for Topeka families who may not be able to afford these items. Volunteers will be accepting donations from 11:00 to 7:00 Friday, May 2, and from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, May 3rd.
“During the month of April, we held a collection drive among our St. Francis Health associates,” said Director of Mission and Ethics Jenna Herron. “Associate response was tremendous, but we thought others in the community might also like the chance to donate.”
Walmart shoppers are encouraged to bring insect repellent and sunscreen to the drop-off location, or purchase the items in the store and drop them off on their way out. Those who donate will be given a ‘thank you’ gift from St. Francis Health.
Collected items will be delivered to Doorstep, which will distribute them throughout the summer months.
