LAWRENCE -- Energized by the NCAA basketball championship by Bill Self's Jayhawks, about 1,200 people are expected to gather on the infield of Kansas Speedway Saturday night.
They'll be there for ``Bill's Basketball Boogie,'' a party to
raise money for a children's wellness center. One of the organizers
said fans are flying in from New York, California and points in
between.
They're eager to hang out with the coaches and players who
brought home the Jayhawks' first basketball title in 20 years.
Tickets are $250 apiece. Plus, a big part of the night will be
auctions of such things as a collage of every Sports Illustrated
cover that ever pictured Kansas athletes, vacations to New York and
the Cayman Islands, and a car.
Self is hoping to raise about $500,000 to help design and build
a wellness center for children.
