Final Answer: Software System Approved

Topeka City Council members heard a promise from Mayor Bill Bunten that whatever they decided on a city software system would be their final decision. After vetoing the expenditure of nearly $4 million dollars for a City ERP Software System last September, and two weeks ago.. Council members voted 7-2 to override his veto Tuesday night. John Alcala and Sylvia Ortiz cast the "no" votes.

Bunten repeated his wishes that the money be spent on other city projects. He objected to Topeka being presented with "the Lawson proposal and no other option."

The city's Information Technology specialist said the city's current system could not be upgraded to perform the tasks the Lawson system could provide. Council member Deborah Swank also expressed concerns that too many IT vendors were written into the new contract, and the city should honor its contractual commitments.
