Good news just keeps on coming for KU fans. The University of Kansas' Chancellor and Athletic Director joined KU basketball coach Bill Self, announcing Thursday that Self is staying at KU "for years to come." Details of the new long-term contract proposal were not revealed, because Lew Perkins told reporters those details will be worked out over the next few weeks.

Today's news conference ended whirlwind speculation that Self would leave Lawrence for Stillwater and Oklahoma State, his alma mater. Self says he held conversations with Cowboys AD Mike Holder, who "hit all the right strains" in their casual talks. But when it was said and done, Self told reporters, "my wife and I love it here.. and we want to stay here."

The championship coach held 15 minutes of talks with Perkins and Chancellor Robert Hemenway yesterday. They both regard Self as "the right person to represent KU for a long time to come."

Self led his Jayhawks to the university's third national title Monday night in a thriller over Memphis. Self says the Oklahoma State speculation was "never a distraction" for his players, who were only concerned about basketball.

The team will be honored in a parade Sunday afternoon at 3:00 down Massachusetts Street. WIBW-TV is also re-airing the title game Saturday night at 10:35pm.
