The Topeka Fire Department's International Association of Firefighters Local 83 is raising money at Cici's Pizza Thursday to help honor Captain Tony Cox. Cici's (at 2130 SW Wanamaker Road, and on South Topeka Boulevard at Croix) will also donate 25% of its revenues collected for the honor guard's trip. Diners are also asked to specifically mention they're making a purchase to help the fundraiser tonight.
None of the money goes into city coffers.
The off-duty union members will be on hand to clear tables and thank the public for its support from 11am-2pm and again during the dinner hour from 5pm-8pm. Pizzas are $4 for adults, and $3 for children.
Money raised will help the honor guard travel to Colorado Springs for the Fallen Firefighters Memorial September 20. The National Memorial is also on their travel agenda in Emmitsburg, Maryland the weekend of October 3rd.
Captain Cox died while fighting a fire at Villa West Apartments last August 13th. His name will be added to memorials in both cities this year.
