Help for Those with a Gambling Problem

Four state agencies along with the Kansas Coalition on problem gambling announced Thursday a new alliance that will help Kansans get help if they need it.

The Kansas Responsible Gambling Alliance will promote responsible gambling and will work to educate the public about the dangers of the game. A website and toll free number are in the works to help more people reach out for treatment.

"Promotion of responsible gambling is a top priority for the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission," says Stephan Martino, executive director of the Racing and Gaming Commission. "By creating this alliance we work to ensure Kansans have easy access to the best problem gambling evaluation and treatment programs available."

"The Kansas lottery has always encouraged its players to remember that our games are for entertainment and to play responsibly," says lottery executive director Ed Van Petten. "With the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act and the new casino gambling that will be coming to Kansas, it will be even more important to educate players about responsible gambling. The Kansas Lottery is glad to be a part of this new alliance and supports efforts to coordinate resources."
