An appeal for blood donors is being made by the Community Blood Centers in our area. The blood supply is at critically low levels, mostly TYPE B AND TYPE O. Blood Center administrators say the icy weather in December prevented the CBC from collecting more than 1,000 pints of blood, which were expected from mobile blood drives and neighborhood donations. The blood deficit continues.
The Centers provide blood and blood products to more than 70 hospitals in 70 Kansas and Missouri counties. They must collect more than 580 pints of blood each day to meet the needs of patients in the two-state area. They were able to provide blood for about 47,000 patients last year.
Topeka's Blood Center is located at 8th and Lane, near St. Francis and Stormont-Vail.
