Kansans Raise Money So Troops Can Have Happy Holidays

Governor Kathleen Sebelius said she was proud of Kansans efforts to raise money for troops. She had asked Kansans to raise $50,000 to bring home about 430 Kansas National Guard troops before they are deployed to Iraq.

The final tally? $146,000. That will help the troops make it home just in time for Christmas. Their leave begins December 23rd.

The left-over money will be saved to help troops' families down the road for future deployments.

Wal-Mart and Koch Industries combined to contribute more than $40,000.
