WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE-TV) -- A Wichita father and his friend are in custody after police pulled over a pickup early Sunday morning and found a 12-year-old boy behind the wheel.
Police said they received reports of a possible drunk driver in the 3500 block of south Meridian around 1:45 a.m. Police stopped the truck and found the boy in the driver's seat and an intoxicated passenger.
The boy told police he was at home, where his dad and his dad's friend had been drinking, Sgt. Bart Brunscheen reports. The friend said he was too intoxicated to drive and asked the father if the boy could drive him to get something to eat. He said "sure."
Following the traffic stop, the intoxicated passenger in the pickup was arrested for child endangerment. The father was also arrested as a suspect, Brunscheen said.
No names have been released.
