Captain Brad Schoen is now the new Riley County Police Director...sworn in today.

The Riley County Law board met today to discuss county issues but also welcomed Schoen.

Captain Schoen is a small town guy from North Central Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State and entered the police department in 1983.

"It's like any other county (Riley) and especially given the demographics of Riley County we have a large student population, a large military population..alot of those guys in the military have been over in Iraq and they're coming back and any time you get a demographic where your looking at a substantial number of people in their late teens to early 20's of course that generates certain sorts of issues and thats what we see around Riley County and Manhattan there are some other issues that are internal at the police department that I want to do some work on," says Captain Brad Schoen.

When asked about the other candidate for the position Captain Schoen responded,"John and I are fine. We entered this whole thing once they had identified the final candidates..we entered this thing with the idea that at the end we wanted to come out and be able to work together because its important to move the department forward. We had to be able to work together. Through the whole process we exchanged information upfront. The goal being making sure neither of us feels like we got our toes stepped on. Our working relationship is excellent better than it was. He's a bang up guy."

Captain Schoen looks forward to working with Fort Riley, the community and his officers.
