Authorities say a Fort Riley soldier accused of a fatal stabbing outside a Manhattan bar was the victim's former girlfriend.
Riley County police say 24-year-old Fort Riley soldier Antonio
Ortiz Junior and 23-year-old Latoya Fields quarreled inside
Silverado's in Aggieville early Saturday. Once outside the dispute
became physical, and Ortiz was stabbed in the stomach.
He was dead on arrival at a hospital.
Police said Fields fled in a car driven by a friend, but she was
arrested by military police at Fort Riley.
Police said Ortiz and Fields once had a romantic relationship.
Riley County police and the Fort Riley Criminal Investigation
Division are conducting a joint investigation.
Ortiz is the second Fort Riley soldier to die in a homicide in
the past four months.
In July, Secialist Christian Quinones died of a gunshot wound to
the chest at an apartment complex in Junction City. Sergeant
Castulo Salas faces numerous military charges, including murder,
for the death. Salas' next court date was scheduled for tomorrow at
