Kansas Seniors Get Ready to Go for the Gold

Almost 800 senior citizens from the Sunflower State show off their athletic prowess in the Senior Olympics, which began Wednesday and runs through the 12th of October.  Here

A foursome made up of DeReus, Sanger, Fyffe as well as Bill Taylor brought home a national championship title in the sport against 14 other teams from around the United States.

TOPEKA -- Approximately 785 senior athletes, ranging in age from 50 to 94, from all across Kansas and the nation will be in Topeka now through September 26th and again from September 30th to October 12th to compete in the 27th Annual Kansas Senior Olympics.

Sponsored annually by Parks and Recreation of Topeka, the Kansas Senior Olympics event is Kansas’ premier athletic competition for senior athletes. The 2010 Kansas Senior Olympics offers competition in 18 different sports for individuals who will be 50 and over by December 31, 2009.

These sports include Archery, Badminton, 3 on 3 Basketball (teams), Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Racquetball, Road Races, Shuffleboard, Softball (teams), Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track and Field, and Volleyball (teams).

This year athletes will have the opportunity to qualify to attend the 2011 Summer National Senior Games Presented by Humana in Houston, TX.
